bee stitch cardigan

And in a follow-up to my most recent blog post, I’m happy to share that one more of my designs, previously published in Interweave Knits, is also available for purchase here at DCD.

This is the Bee Stitch Cardigan:

The Bee Stitch Cardigan, inspired by classic sportswear, is a study in plush textures.  The body features a brioche-like bee stitch, the fitted sleeves showcase a stretchy slipped-stitch ribbing, and the body is edged in i-cord.

This cardigan is worked back and forth in one piece from the top down with raglan shaping; the yoke and body are worked flat in rows and the sleeves are worked in the round after being separated from the body.  A friendly note about the trickiest part of the design for you knitters out there: because of the difference in the stitch gauges between the bee stitch and the ribbing, the rates of increase also will vary between the body and the sleeves, so the yoke shaping is worked in clearly-marked sections.  Achieving the same row gauge between these two stitch patterns leads to a lovely smooth raglan line.
