Remember that Damson Shawl project that I was working on with the blueberry-colored Alpaca Silk from Blue Sky Alpacas?
Yeah, now it looks like this:
Frogged! The combination of yarn and pattern just wasn’t doing it for me, for whatever reason! And it’s definitely my problem haha, and not a problem with either the yarn or the pattern – both of those are perfect, they just weren’t perfect together for me. I never made a lot of progress on the project beyond the initial push I made over the Xmas holidays, and I think it’s usually true that when a project lingers on the needles, there’s something about it that’s not quite right. So I embraced the *ahem* lack of excitement and tore it out.
The nice part is that I have lots of this fabulous Alpaca Silk yarn in my stash, including a few colors that coordinate together very nicely with this Blueberry shade, so maybe a colorwork project is in order? And with the fabulous new Fair Isle Motifs book by Mary Jane Mucklestone that Andrew got for me, maybe a new MWD design with some colorwork is what’s up next? Stay tuned… 😉
PS: That awesome project bag? Yet another cutie from Three Bags Full Studio, this time with a vivid multicolored map of London’s transit system lined in a brilliant aqua fabric. Who knew such a practical thing as a transit map could be so fun? (well, I guess I did. I LOVE maps.)
And if we’re out with the old, then we’re in the new too, as my latest design, the Agnes cabled and ribbed scarf, is almost finished!
(Yes, I realize that the cables switch direction in this second picture; that’s intentional.)
Knitting with Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick & Quick on size US13 needles goes REALLY fast, even if it gets a bit hefty at the same time. This scarf will only take 3 skeins, making it a chunky, but very economical, style statement! And with the variety of techniques (cabling, ribbing, short rows) going on, this is also a fun knit that really keeps your attention. I just need to do some edging on the tips of the scarf, weave in the ends, and get some photos and voila! Agnes will be ready for her release. This final sample is destined for a charity auction, so the deadline is quickly approaching….
The sun has been shining today, but I hear we’re due for some gloomy weather in the coming days, so you know what that means: prime curling up with knitting time! Bye for now!
