As I mentioned last time, I’ve been doing some fun work behind the scenes here at MWD.
With the help of Elizabeth Green Musselman of Dark Matter Knits, we’ve come up with a new Makewise Designs logo and pattern template! Behold, the culmination of our work on the logo:
How fun is that? I love it! The letters are made using the cord of a circular needle (and of course the needles are metal and very pointy – my favorite.) We also know, of course, how I feel about jewel-toned colors like emerald green…The whole logo feels fresh and clean to me, and working with Elizabeth was a great experience. I absolutely recommend her! 🙂
And in the interests of full disclosure, the real brains behind this logo idea was my sister. Gabrielle has always had a natural creative streak and a real knack for unique ideas. (You should see the cakes she decorates!) Well, when I mentioned that I was toying with the idea of a new logo and what I was thinking of, she grabbed a pen and just sketched out her first thought, which led to what you see above. Amazing!
I’m having a blast incorporating the logo when/where I need it, like new cards for Rhinebeck (eek! only two months away already!), as we all know that this modern era of the Internet only elevates the importance of consistent branding. Another place that the logo and its color/design scheme are showing up is in my new pattern template:
This is the first page of my new pattern template, using the Kindred Blanket pattern that I released last week. All of my new patterns going forward will use this layout, and over time, I’ll need to update my older patterns to be in this format as well. An ongoing project, if you will. Once again, Elizabeth was fantastic to work with in creating this template. Mine is in Word, but if you’re interested, she can also make templates using the Adobe Creative Suite, which has a significant amount of professional tools and functionality. I suspect that, in the future, I will eventually upgrade to the CS format. Again, another ongoing project 😉
So those are the latest behind-the-scene changes around these parts. I love this type of branding/marketing work, just generally being creative in generating a unique business identity. Deciding on the logo and pattern template are a great step in that direction!
