five years old

Belated Christmas wishes, everyone!  December has simply flown this year and seems to move faster with every passing year, a feeling that I’m sure is familiar to many of you, too.  I hope that the holiday season is a peaceful and fulfilling one for all of us!

This post is a couple weeks overdue as Jackson turned 5 almost two weeks ago.  He is still full of excitement, energy, and wonder with the dawning of each new day.  This past year brought him increased patience and determination (as evidenced by his love of sitting and building with LEGOS daily) and a greater sense of himself within his wider community.  We are forever grateful for him, the lessons he has taught us, and the light in his heart.

In honor of his big birthday, I decided (very much at the last minute!) to design and knit this year’s sweater.  I wove in the ends with only one day to spare, but I’m extra pleased with how it turned out.  This might just be one of my most favorite knits ever.

This year’s sweater is a pullover knit in the round from the bottom up with a Aran-inspired cable and rib motif on the body and sleeves.  The body and sleeves are a bit longer than average to allow for growing room (and my string bean-shaped boy)!  The yoke features a compound raglan line for a better fit and a nice deep crewneck to make putting it on and taking it off easy.  The hems and neck also feature tubular edges because I just love the professional finish that they impart.

The yarn was an older one from my stash, which I’m seriously committing to knitting from in 2020.  It’s Madelinetosh Tosh DK, which is available online at Jimmy Beans Wool.  The colorway is “Fawn,” and I love the vintage-y cream/brown feel it gives to this classically-minded design.  I’m hoping to get it sized, edited, and released next year!

Until then, here’s a little retrospective of Jackson’s previous birthday sweaters.  They bring a tear to my eye 🙂
