corinne crocheted blanket

I’m so happy to finally reveal my first pattern for Knit Picks! The Corinne Crocheted Blanket went live today on Knit Picks’ website as part of their Independent Designer Program.

I first designed this blanket as a gift for a pair of dear friends who were having their first baby. I liked the finished result so much that I created the second one pictured here for Knit Picks in their Comfy cotton-blend fingering yarn. The blanket is crocheted with 2 strands of yarn held together to give it more body, but the finished blanket is still airy and lightweight enough for a baby born at any time of year in any part of the country. I experimented with different surface textures in the pattern to reinforce the linear nature of the stitch design. I prepared the sample shown in the “Marlin” colorway, but there are oodles of great colors to choose from in the Comfy palette. And of course, since “easy care” is the mantra for handmade baby items, this blanket is machine washable. Knit Picks has been incredibly supportive and I’d love to work with them again in the future! Also, I’ll be adding pages here at Makewise and on Ravelry to make the pattern more readily available, but you can always follow the link above to support Knit Picks, buy the PDF, and get started right away!

The blanket is named for my mom, who inspired me to learn to crochet, taught me how, and then helped me test and retest this pattern until every t was crossed and every i was dotted! Thanks, Mom 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed broadening my crochet horizons, especially since my newfound skills also seem to help me think through my knitting designs, too – once again, I’m reminded that so many things are really interrelated and that you can never learn enough in life….
And of course, I’ve got to thank my awesome lil’ nephew who let me borrow his crib for the photoshoot – thanks, Ace, I owe you one 😉

PS: Knitting on the as-yet-unnamed sock continues apace and I’m still completely smitten with it, too. I tried it on the other day and it felt SO cozy and soft. This Fiberphile merino/cashmere/nylon sock yarn is even softer knit up than in the hank. I’m nearly up to the toe shaping, so perhaps there will be a photo or two of the FO this weekend! (I’ll probably have plenty of knitting time, as it appears that it will never stop raining here. At least the lilacs like the rain?)

  1. Congratulations Danielle! A published designer, there will be no stopping you. The blanket is really lovely too.

And what a wonderful tribute to your Mother, in naming the baby blanket in her honor. I bet she was tickled pink, and who could blame her. She deserves to be. It’s quite obvious that she taught you well. 🙂

  2. WOW…THANKS, Danielle!! I am so honored by your designation…!!! I am very happy that your design was accepted by Knit Picks, and that I could be a part of it all…! Let us not forget MY crocheting teacher, Aunt Marg, who inspired me and taught me a wonderful variety of needle crafts that I enjoy to this day…it was a gift to me that I was MORE than happy to pass along to you! Congratulations to you again!!
