Did I have a nervous breakdown at the local Sephora? Nope – if you can believe it, that’s the parting gift from the 2011 March of Dimes’ Beauty Ball hosted by the New York Chapter of the March of Dimes! Although the annual event celebrates those local individuals who do so much for the March of Dimes (a longstanding charity that aims to prevent premature births and to educate on birth defects), it’s also a big event for the cosmetics industry and it shows in the gift bag – filled with more beauty products than a girl could ever reasonably use in one lifetime! I lost count at seven nailpolishes and five perfumes…..this treasure trove will definitely be shared with the ladies & gents in my life.
The event was held at Cipriani’s 42nd street location in Manhattan, famous for hosting these types of events. Everything was beautiful – from the flowers to the food presentation (and delicious, too, considering how many hundreds of people were served simultaneously) to the host herself, Vanessa Williams:
Unfortunately, the bidding in the live auction never really took off, although the auctioneer was a local television anchorman who did an energetic (and humorous) job. Still, it was a lot of fun and a great excuse to dress up and enjoy myself, all for a great cause.
In other news, now that I’ve gotten the two large crochet projects from the past month off my plate, I worked on the bottom ribbing of my gorgeous blue sweater (really need to get that finished before the weather turns warm for good….) and I finally had a chance to swatch out a simple lace pattern to adorn the edge of my green shawl – I did a lot of the swatching on Sunday during the final round of the Masters (how exciting was that?!? it was anyone’s title for a while – loved it!). The deep, shiny green color of the pashmina reminded me of all the lush foliage on the course, so I may just end up naming this pattern “Augusta.” Stay tuned for better pictures soon, and have a good week!
