It’s the subtle details that matter with the Annecy Beret. A knitted hem is used to create a sleek and firm brim, while a simple diagonal lace pattern imparts loads of cushy texture in a chic, spiraling style. Use an Aran-weight yarn, like the Knit Picks City Tweed Aran/HW shown here, to give the beret softness and warmth with a classic tweed fabric.

The hat comes in two sizes and should be worn with at least 1-2” [2.5-5 cm] of negative ease in the brim. The sample shown is knit in the larger size.

Finished Measurements:

Brim: 17 (19)” / 43.25 [48.25] cm

Height: 7½ (8)” / 19 [20.25] cm

Materials:

Aran-weight yarn at approx 164 yds [150 m] per 100 g [3.5 oz]: 164 (190) yds / 150 [175] m

  • Large size shown in Knit Picks City Tweed Aran/HW (55% Merino wool, 25% superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed; approx. 164 yds [150 m] per 100 g [3.5 oz]): “Snowbank,” 2 balls.

US 6 (4.0 mm): 16” [40 cm] circular needle

US 7 (4.5 mm): 16” [40 cm] circular needle and five double-pointed needles (DPNs), or size needed to obtain gauge

Crochet hook, waste yarn, markers, yarn needle

Gauges:

17 stitches / 24 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in Lace patt on larger needle, after blocking

16 sts / 24 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in st st on smaller needle, after blocking
